ATLANTA, GA, April 04, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Atlanta shredding company Shred-Green gave a free presentation to the residents at Park Springs, a continuing care retirement community in Stone Mountain GA, on the topic of identity theft on Monday, March 28th. This is one of several presentations sponsored by Shred-Green in recent months.
Everett Perkins, company president and CEO, provided an entertaining presentation on the threat of identity theft, the signs that a theft may have occurred, actions that can be taken to protect your identity and remedies if the theft has occurred. The event was arranged by a community administrator in conjunction with a free shredding event which will be held later in May.
As identity theft continues to be a threat nationwide, it is more important than ever for individuals to protect their private information. This is particularly true for the retired community. The elderly are less likely to be connected to the internet which means they rely on paper statements for their communication. Regular mail is an easy target for thieves for obtaining medical or financial information. Since it might take longer to be aware that a paper statement is missing, the victims are often unaware that a crime has taken place until it is too late. Once discovered, it is harder for them to remedy the situation unless they have the information about what to do and who to contact at their fingertips.
Shred-Green co-owner Kathy Perkins was pleased that her Atlanta shredding company was able to provide this service to the Park Springs residents. "We were very happy to be able to education this group of citizens that may not know how to protect themselves or what to do if a crime is committed against them. This is another community service we are pleased to provide."
Shred-Green provides commercial and residential shredding services in the metro Atlanta area and beyond, including Duluth shredding, Lawrenceville shredding, and Lilburn shredding services. Community involvement has always been an important focus for Shred-Green, and the company will be providing similar presentations as a public service to the metro-Atlanta community in the future.
