ROME, ITALY, April 07, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Rome's Palazzo delle Esposizioni is showcasing a fascinating history of currency in Italy as part of the country's unification celebrations.
The exhibition will look at how the nation changed its monetary system in the 19th century and the challenges it had to overcome to do so.
From Lira to Euro parallels this story with the background of the single European currency and explores similarities in the two periods of change.
The show runs from April 5th to July 1st and is free to attend thanks to sponsorship by the Bank of Italy.
It includes original banknotes and coins, as well as displaying historical documents and considering the political implications of a unified currency.
This year is the 150th anniversary of Italy's unification.
In order to enter the installation without needing to pay, people should use the entrance at Scalinata di Via Milano.
Some other exhibitions at the Palazzo delle Esposizioni, such as cinema screenings, will require payment.
The venue opens at 10:00 local time daily and closes at 20:00 on Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. This changes to 22:30 on Friday and Saturday. It is shut on Monday.
