DUSSELDORF, GERMANY, April 22, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The World Team Cup will return to Dusseldorf with a new title sponsor next month.
Regarded as one of the most prestigious team competitions in professional tennis, the event has been going since 1978 but faced an uncertain future when German insurance company ARAG decided to withdraw its support after last year's edition.
Initial reports suggested the tournament would be cancelled for 2011, but the organisers had other ideas.
Negotiations with Austrian energy drink firm Power House resulted in a fresh sponsorship deal for the World Team Cup, which is now due to take place in the German city between Sunday May 15th and Saturday May 21st.
Argentina are the reigning title holders, having defeated the USA in last year's final. The South Americans are also one of five countries with four victories at the event to their name, along with Germany, Spain, Sweden and the USA.
In 2009, a Serbian team featuring the likes of Janko Tipsarevic and Viktor Troicki beat Germany to win the trophy.
Other players who have helped steer their teams to glory on the clay courts of Dusseldorf's Rochus Club in recent years include Sweden's Robin Soderling, Croatian star Mario Ancic and Nicolas Kiefer of Germany.
Tickets for the World Team Cup, which attracts up to 75,000 spectators each year, are now available.
Prices range from EUR10 to EUR119 (GBP8.80 and GBP105.30), depending on which day of action people attend and where they choose to sit.
Tennis fans planning to book a Dusseldorf hotel stay for the tournament will find a diverse range of options at LateRooms.com, which recommends the Relexa Hotel Ratingen City.
