LONDON, ENGLAND, April 30, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The latest compact camera offering from Panasonic is the new Lumix DMC-TZ20, which provides some great new features for around the GBP350 mark.
These compact superzoom cameras from Panasonic are highly regarded, due to superb optics from Leica, good build quality, and a leading array of innovative features.
One improvement from the predecessor is the increased resolution from 12.1 megapixels to 14.1, and a massive 16x optical zoom. The TZ10 had only a 12x optical zoom. Another is the big increase in video resolution, the TZ20 now records 1080i, although some would say they haven't gone far enough; the competition, such as Sony's HX9V and the SX230 from Canon can record 1080p, although the interlaced AVCHD format keeps file sizes more manageable.
Like the earlier model, this camera also has a built-in GPS chip. Geo-tagging photos is all the rage on sites like Flickr, and the location of the photo is automatically recorded in the EXIF data for the shot.
New on this model is the touchscreen, allowing you to control most of the camera controls and settings, and even focus and zoom just by jabbing your finger, much like controlling a touchscreen smartphone. Automatic focus tracking like this is a great way to capture moving subjects, just touch the screen where you want the focus to be, and the camera locks on and tracks it, keeping it sharp even if it, or the camera is moving. When you combine this and the enhanced image stabilising technology, you can get some fantastic results with barely any motion blur at all.
With loads of different shooting modes for a variety of scenarios, the results are exceptional, especially the improved auto mode.
Finally, with 3D becoming more and more popular, this little camera has a 3D mode, which, although only available up to 2 megapixels, is very simple to use. Just pan the camera slowly, while it automatically takes 20 shots, allowing you to combine a couple of them to produce an Avatar-style 3D image. You'll need a 3D HDTV to see them though.
