PHUKET, THAILAND, May 06, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The ceremony is carried out as a method of creating peace globally and to assist with the welfare and health of all people. This is done through offerings which are presented to gods and chanting sacred passages. The term yagna means an offering which includes specialist items of flowers, fruit, rice, seeds and cow's ghee which is clarified butter. All of these items are transferred to the deities through the medium of fire and so are burnt in a pit called the homa kundam to be received by gods such as Varuna and Indra.
By appeasing the gods the gods will then see fit to sustain mankind in a cooperation between the human and spirit world. Along with the sacrifices the ceremony will feature chanting by all the people taking part and this is of specific texts which are repeated over and over for eight hours each day. The verses are called the Namakan and the Chamakam which are chanted 22 times and twice each respectively on every day.
The ceremony takes place between 6th and 12th June 2011 and to qualify to attend people must be capable of carrying out the chanting for this length of time and also agree to not eat meat over the course of the occasion.
