/24-7PressRelease/ - AUBURN, MA, November 24, 2006 - In a newly released survey titled Executive Level Organizational Upset Survey, nearly 40% of US Executives said that Lack of Focus, people having too many and often not the right priorities, is the main reason their companies struggle to overcome the unavoidable curveballs that all businesses face.
"Respondents commented that the 'do more with less' philosophy has people stretched too thin. It is making organizations less resilient in dealing with the unexpected.", commented Paul Plotczyk, report co-author and President of Work Systems Affiliates.
One Executive captured the sentiment of many of the interviewees, "Our people are busy. Our job is to get them doing more of the right thing."
Dr. Paul Stimson, report co-author and Managing Partner of Work Systems Affiliates reported "Respondents felt it was their responsibility to focus their organization or suffer the consequences of a company that was unprepared and slow to respond to inevitable organizational upset."
The other top barriers to dealing with organizational upset were Internal Cultural Barriers at 24% and Resource Constraints garnering 18% of the responses
The Executive Level Organizational Upset Survey reports the results of nearly 50 one-on one interviews with executives representing a cross-section of US companies ranging in size from $50 million to $2.5 billion in annual revenue.
Participants were asked to discuss the events which affected their companies' ability to achieve their strategic goals and how they responded to those events - what worked, what didn't, what they would change in the future.
