PHUKET, THAILAND, May 07, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Stretching a formidable 36 kilometres, the Marathon of the Capri-Naples Gulf lives up to its name as the main long distance race and is the event to win for many of the athletes. Competitors will be hoping to accrue as many points as possible however as it's just one leg of the series and points are accumulated over the other races which include Canada, Argentina, USA and Macedonia.
Prize money to the value of $20,000 is available to the winner over the entire ten races which make up the series and which vary in distance but are all over at least 15 kilometres. Spectators looking to cheer on the swimmers can line the waters at either the starting point at the Capri Marina Grande or at the finish at the Via Caracciolo in Naples.
The current record holder is Paul Asmuth with a time of 6 hours, 35 minutes which hasn't been broken since 1982. The race will be held on 19th June 2011 and spectators can book hotels in Naples Airport to come over and watch the event and see if this is the year that a new course record is set.
Lek Boonlert, marketing head at DirectRooms.com commented: "As an international event many people will be booking up hotels to see the race. Before availability becomes limited visitors should therefore make reservations online."
