Drowning In An Ocean Of Books
/24-7PressRelease/ - PORT ORFORD, OR, November 27, 2006 - In September 2006, the web doors to Far West Books and Gifts, an on-line used book store, opened for business.
This was a long time dream of Catherine Dahrens. She had looked into a store front book store but found the cost would be too high. She also wanted a home based business. The solution was an on-line store. Where did she get the books to open a store? Her family and friends gave her books. She has also bought books from friends who where moving, so they would not be discarded. The results were "an ocean of books" according to Catherine. She has a house full of books. She rarely discards a book. She donates some to the local library and gives some away to people who want to read them. The majority of her books are stored away in totes. She says boxes are not safe for books. If she stacked her totes they would probably fill an 8X10 foot room floor to ceiling. She keeps acquiring books as fast as she sells them.
"I love books. They are entertaining, educational, inspiring and relaxing. Whatever I want to do I can find with or in a book." Catherine fell in love with books when she was about 10 years old. She read Jack London's Call of the Wild and said she has been reading ever since then. She laughs and said "I came across that book again about a year ago and read it again".
Why did she open a book store? Every book is worth reading until it falls apart. Some where someone at some point in time will want to read that particular book. I hope to be the one who will supply it for them.
