BROOKLYN, NY, May 21, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Five additional scholarships for the 2011 New York Chess & Games Kids Chess Summer Program have just been funded.
These scholarships provide matching funds and pay for one half of the total fees for the program. Selected recipients are responsible for the remaining half of program cost.
Beginning the week of June 27th and continuing until August 26th, the New York Chess & Games Kids Chess Summer Program provides eight weeks of stimulating, challenging and rewarding chess fun for children between the ages of 3 and 12. The program accommodates participants of all skill levels, from absolute beginner to experienced tournament player. The children enjoy weekly field trips, outdoor sports activities and guest visits from some of America's top chess players. Guest instructors in the past have included Grandmaster Maurice Ashley and Grandmaster Alexander Lenderman.
The program is run and directed by chess instructor Christian Whitted.
New York Chess & Games has been the recipient of certificates, awards and letters of recognition from the offices of Councilmember Letitia James, Congressperson Yvette Clarke, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz and New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
