CAVAN, IRELAND, May 31, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Motorists looking for cheap car insurance for young drivers should take note of pending changes to legislation due to take effect from spring of this year, says car insurance specialist Quinn Direct.
Current legislation allows motor vehicles to be taxed but uninsured, providing the vehicle is not parked or used on public roads. Once pending legislation comes into effect, motorists without minimum insurance cover will be breaking the law.
As of spring 2011, the UK off-road vehicle law will change. This change requires all vehicles that are permanently or temporarily off the road, with a cancelled insurance policy to have a Statutory Off-road Notification (SORN). The legislation now makes it a whole lot easier for motorists. A SORN can be acquired online, by phone or when applying for a vehicle tax refund. Having this notification communicates to the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency that a vehicle with a discontinued insurance policy, is currently off the road.
The impact of these changes will be felt by motorists across the UK and in particular those seeking young drivers' car insurance.
There may be considerable pressures upon younger people to seek cheap car insurance for young drivers. Some young drivers in the past may have been tempted to keep their vehicle 'off-road' in an attempt to avoid the cost of young drivers' car insurance but in fact, may be occasionally driving the vehicle.
Quinn Direct warns that there are considerable risks when driving or owning an uninsured vehicle. Uninsured drivers can face a GBP100 fixed penalty or in some cases a maximum penalty of GBP1000 with a court appearance. Motorists operating an uninsured vehicle can risk it being wheel-clamped, impounded, or destroyed. **
Quinn Direct recognises that, particularly for younger drivers, running and maintaining a vehicle can be costly, without having to pay out for what they may consider is over-priced car insurance. That is why Quinn Direct offers a range of bespoke car insurance policies for younger motorists, including cheap car insurance for young drivers, student car insurance and learner driver insurance in both the UK and Ireland.
