TROPEZ, FRANCE, June 03, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Following a spate of bookings during the last month, things are certainly looking rosier in terms of luxury yacht charter and the news regarding luxury yacht sales is similarly encouraging with an increase in numbers compared to the same period last year. Unfortunately the majority of these sales have been in the 24-35m categories, which represents the smaller end of the market, so while the volume is up the overall value of the market is somewhat down.

Fortunately, however, over the last few days' negotiations have been completed with regard to a number of very large yachts and as such we are hopeful that we will see a positive adjustment in the value of June's statistics. It's still very much a buyer's market and final contract prices are still well below asking prices and are at a similar level to this time last year. Overall, however, we are hopeful that over the next three months we will see an increase in luxury yacht sales as our experience tells us that the coming months are usually amongst the most lucrative of the year.

Unfortunately the news from the shipyards is less encouraging, after eighteen months of downsizing there are few clear signs of things turning round anytime soon. As a result the shipyards are particularly keen to sign up clients looking to build new yachts and as such are being relatively flexible with regard to prices, at least in comparison to two years ago.

However, potential clients must be aware that there are still financial risks in today's market and one should approach any new build project with a full understanding of the project. It is well worth securing the services of an experienced project manager or broker, who will be able to advise you on the financial position of the shipyards and their shareholders before you make any commitment.
