PHILADELPHIA, PA, June 04, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Philadelphia Chamber Music Society (PCMS) is pleased to announce the 2011/2012 Piano Recital Series featuring exceptional artists from home and abroad along with two Philadelphia premieres - all at the Kimmel Center's intimate Perelman Theater.
German pianist, Christian Zacharias, will leave his post at the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne to perform works by CPE Bach, Brahms, Beethoven and Schubert. Canadian Anton Kuerti will also return to the Piano Series this year with an all-Beethoven recital.
Known for his "wizardry [that] defies the laws of nature," Marc-Andre Hamelin will perform works by Alkan and Chopin.
Marlboro Music artistic directors, Mitsuko Uchida and Richard Goode, will perform works by Schumann and Chopin. Vladimir Feltsman, one of the most versatile and consistently interesting musicians of our time, will return with a program of Haydn Sonatas and Chopin Ballades. Garrick Ohlsson, winner of the Chopin International Piano Competition in 1970, will appear with an all-Liszt program. To close the series, Andras Schiff will present work by J.S. Bach, Bartok and Beethoven along with two new works.
The Piano Recital Series will feature the Philadelphia premieres of J. Widmann and Kurtog.
The Piano Recital Series will be held at the intimate Perlman Theater at the Kimmel Center. Local food and drinks will be available through selected suppliers.
