PHUKET, THAILAND, June 04, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Feast of the Assumption is a public holiday and is more commonly referred to as La Asuncion by locals who organise parades and large banquets for the occasion. As a feast eating is definitely part of the occasion but the event's main purpose is to act as a reminder of Mary taking her place with Jesus.
As part of the parades an image of Mary is led graciously through the streets, the local neighbourhoods and into the city centre where crowds line the roads to watch the procession. Anyone visiting Pamplona and using hotels in Pamplona Airport can watch the spectacle for free and accompanying the statue marching bands and carriers will be dressed in traditional costumes made up of both young and old residents.
While the marching music and singing adds to the atmosphere visitors can take the chance to try some of the local favourites being sold by street vendors and maybe pick up crafts and other souvenirs as a reminder of the day.
The main procession is held on 15th August 2011 but the holiday in some areas also begins earlier on 11th August.
Lek Boonlert, marketing head at DirectRooms.com, commented: "With families returning home and more visitors coming to see the events hotels are often stretched trying to accommodate guests. People should try to book early to find availability."
