NEWFOUND LAKE, NH, June 07, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Scotland's Lesley Paterson, who won the inaugural Xterra off-road triathlon Pacific Championships in Santa Cruz in Northern California just two weeks ago, followed that up with her first ever Ironman victory at the 2011 Mooseman Ironman 70.3 in New Hampshire.
Paterson finished in the time of 4 hours 30 minutes 58 seconds, 48 seconds in front of the second place Caitlin Snow. Having been injured and ill with a stomach parasite off and on for most of the past year, an injury free Paterson was finally able to put it all together for the victory, posting an even 27 minute swim, a 2 hours 40 minute 31 second bike (fastest time by 4 minutes), and a 1 hour 21 minute 16 second run.
Coming out of the swim shoulder-to-shoulder with Snow, Paterson took the lead on the bike at the one mile mark and never looked back.
Said Paterson, "What a beautiful, inspiring course to have my first win on. Impeccably organized and a race I'm going to tell everyone about! Thanks to all my sponsors for their incredible support: Trek, K-Swiss, CEP compression, GU, Rehab United, and my manager Wattie Ink. Last but not least I want to thank my brilliant coach, Vince Fichera (Slowstep Cycling)."
The 31 year-old Paterson began the season by signing with the prestigious Trek K-Swiss triathlon team and has been progressing from strength to strength since then.
Added Paterson, "I'm looking forward to the rest of my season now I'm injury and parasite free! I shall be at Kansas 70.3 next week racing on a winner's high and then I can't wait for the 70.3 World Championships making its debut in Las Vegas. On the off-road front I will be at the Xterra Nationals in Ogden, Utah, and then the Xterra World Championships in Hawaii."
Paterson is no stranger to the Xterra World Championships, where she finished second in 2009.
With her season progressing so well, she has already set her sights on improving on that performance come October.
