LONDON, ENGLAND, June 12, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The cultures of Australia, New Zealand and islands in the south Pacific will be the focal point of the City of London Festival in 2011.
Established in 1962, the event shifts the focus away from business in the financial district for three weeks, with this year's spectacle running from June 27th to July 16th.
A guitar concerto by John Williams, a tribute to composer Percy Grainger played on street pianos and the first ever London New Zealand Film Festival are among the anticipated highlights.
Many of the exciting and unusual performances taking place are free to enjoy, such as the Waka on the Thames, which will see a traditionally-dressed crew of 16 Maoris row a canoe down the river.
"Each summer the City of London Festival brings the City's unique buildings and outdoor spaces to life with an extensive artistic programme of music, visual arts, film, walks and talks," explained the organisers in a statement.
Fans of the didgeridoo will not want to miss a show by acclaimed player William Barton and may enjoy Didges on the Bridges, which will see ancient rhythms performed during the morning commuting hours to entertain and inspire the area's workers.
