DUSSELDORF, GERMANY, June 15, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The streets of Dusseldorf will be awash with Gallic culture and influences next month when the city stages its annual France Festival.
Set to run from Friday July 15th to Sunday July 17th 2011, the occasion is an opportunity for the German city to display its close relationship with the French people.
Dusseldorf's Aldstadt - or Old Town - will be transformed into a 'petit Paris' over the course of the event, with French entertainment and culinary delicacies creating the atmosphere.
Dancing, film, music, poetry and theatre are also set to feature on the packed bill, along with various prize giveaways and stalls.
Proceedings are due to kick off at 18:30 local time on the Friday, with Lord Mayor of Dusseldorf Dirk Elbers and Hugues Nordier, the consul general of France, officially opening the celebrations in the courtyard of the City Hall.
At 18:40, local schoolchildren will take the stage for a performance of French music, followed around 30 minutes later by a tribute to Francis Cabrel, the popular singer-songwriter from Agen.
Visitors can expect to hear the cover band play a host of Cabrel's best-known tracks, such as Je L'Aime a Mourir (I Love Her to Death), which was a major hit across Europe and Canada in the late 1970s.
Acclaimed singer and accordion player Marianne Cornil, whose songs include Elodie and Beau Desordre, is due to perform at 19:50.
Festivities are scheduled to run from 18:30 to 22:00 on the first night, 13:00 to 22:00 on the Saturday and 12:00 to 18:00 on the final day.
Entry to the first two days costs EUR4 (GBP3.50) per person, while admission for the final day is charged at EUR3.
