Elizabeth Baird Named Professional of the Year in Adult Education

With a goal of reaching 50 years of service for the City of Burlington Public Schools, Ms. Baird is dedicated to making learning fun for adults.

BURLINGTON, NJ, June 22, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ --Elizabeth F. Baird, Adult Education Director for the City of Burlington Public Schools, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who as a Professional of the Year for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in Adult Education.

Mother Teresa once said, "Unless life is lived for others, it is not worthwhile." For Mrs. Baird, who has 46 years of experience in the field of education, this quote not only rings true, but is the motivation behind her career. As an Adult Education Director, she bears the responsibilities of interviewing and evaluating personnel, planning programs, handling budget and payroll, and fulfilling such administrative tasks as answering phone and email inquiries and designing flyers to mail to the local community and surrounding areas. Born, raised and educated in the City of Burlington, Mrs. Baird graduated as salutatorian of her high school class in 1956 and has since devoted herself to teaching in the city's public school system and volunteering with local organizations that hold historical value and continue to enrich the lives of people in the community. After teaching children for many years, she has directed the Adult Education night courses and developed a daytime program of courses to fulfill the need for this type of educational service in her region.

"Seeing the smiling faces of the adult students means that they are having fun learning," Mrs. Baird explains, noting that such positive reactions are the most gratifying aspects of her career. An expert in educational curriculum, leadership and technology, she has and is involved with CBEA, BCREA, NJREA, NEA, the American Association of University Women, Phi Delta Kappa International, and other professional organizations. Additionally, Mrs. Baird is a trustee of the Burlington County Historical Society and serves as Commissioner of the Historic Preservation Commission of Burlington. She sits on the Board of Managers for the Home for Aged Women of Burlington County and is affiliated with The Friendly Institution of Burlington, a charitable organization that was founded in 1796, a trustee of the Friends of the Library Company of Burlington that has been in operation for 253 years and a member of the Literacy Committee of the Workforce Investment Board.

Mrs. Baird earned a Master's degree in Education from Marywood University in Scranton, Pa., and a Bachelor of Arts in English, French and Elementary Education from Upsala College in East Orange, N.J. Talented, innovative and persistent, Mrs. Baird believes that her success derives from a combination of these qualities and the support she receives from family, friends, acquaintances, neighbors and colleagues. With a goal of achieving 50 years of service to the school district, Mrs. Baird plans to continue educating and volunteering in her retirement.
