BERLIN, GERMANY, July 05, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Berlin is set to welcome one of the biggest names in underground hip-hop on Friday July 22nd.
MF Doom, the mysterious performer known for taking the stage with his face covered by a steel mask, will make a rare appearance in Germany at the capital's Astra Kulturhaus.
Based on comic book villain Doctor Doom, the rap persona is one of several alter egos adopted by Daniel Dumile.
Formerly a member of New York-based hip-hop group KMD, Dumile re-emerged as Doom in the late 1990s following a period of inactivity.
His debut solo album Operation: Doomsday was widely praised as an underground classic, with the performer going on to release acclaimed collaborative projects with producers Madlib and Danger Mouse.
In 2009, Doom released his latest solo LP Born Like This and began to tour again after several years out of the spotlight.
He has worked on tracks with the likes of Gorillaz and Ghostface Killah of the Wu-Tang Clan, while an album of new material with Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke is also rumoured to be in the pipeline.
Dumile is revered among hip-hop fans for his dense and idiosyncratic delivery, which typically contains a slew of bizarre pop culture references, obscure vocabulary and self-referential jokes.
US group Anti-Pop Consortium and UK rapper Infinite Livez will be supporting Doom in Berlin, with several other DJs and performers on the bill.
Tickets for the show are priced at EUR25 (GBP22.60), with doors due to open at 20:00 local time.
Music fans seeking Berlin hotels will find a wide range of options at LateRooms.com, which recommends the Maritim Hotel Berlin.
