SAN RAFAEL, CA, July 31, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- During Labor Day Weekend, Maui will celebrate its modern day "eat local" movement. A-List Chefs from Maui's premiere restaurants will share their knowledge about Hawaii cuisines through culinary lectures, cooking classes, food and wine tastings, a dine around of local restaurants and a Grand Tasting Day of events that ends with a fireworks exhibition.
What's the reason for this celebration? The "Invitation To Foodies - A Taste of Hawaii" is a 3-day culinary event that will benefit two Maui charities: the Friends of the Children's Justice Center of Maui and Ka Lima O Maui. These non-profits help abused and neglected children and disabled adults of Maui County. A portion of each ticket purchased is contributed to the charities.
The chefs participating are Beverly Gannon, Ryan Luckey, James McDonald, Brian Etheridge, David Paul, Cameron Lewark, Theresa Shurilla and Marc McDowell. The restaurants participating are Gannon's, Spago, I'o, Capische, Pineapple Grill and David Paul's Island Grill.
A sampling of the Grand Tasting Day menu: "Hapa Hapa Tempura" - Tempura of Ahi and Ono with Sea Salad, Lime Basil Sauce and Miso Sesame Accent, Maui Gold Pineapple Caviar, Mushroom Truffle Risotto, "Sweet and Sour" Glazed Island Fish in Lettuce Cups, Mongolian Baby Back Ribs Pineapple Slaw and House Smoked Salmon and Mango Salsa.
