PHILADELPHIA, PA, August 28, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Philadelphia Chamber Music Society (PCMS) is pleased to announce new sponsorship for its Century Series. Irvin J. Borowsky and Laurie Wagman, two longtime PCMS friends and audience members, will generously sponsor this series showcasing great works written in the last 100 years.
Their pledge comes at the beginning PCMS' 25th Anniversary Campaign that will honor the extraordinary achievements and legacy of founder, Tony Checchia. To this end, PCMS will establish the Anthony P. Checchia Artistic Director Chair Endowment and build a reserve fund to enable PCMS to continue its vital role in the cultural life of Philadelphia.
Performing at this year's Century Series is Philadelphia native, Leon Bates, who is known for his strength and elegance at the keyboard. He will perform in an afternoon recital at the Philadelphia Art Museum on Sunday, November 20th, 2011 at 3pm.
David Effron will lead the Curtis 20/21 Ensemble in a rare performance of Igor Stravinsky's modernist masterpiece, L'Histoire du Soldat. It will take place on Tuesday, January 24th, 2012 at 8pm at the intimate Perelman Theater at the Kimmel Center.
Known for their high technical polish, the Borromeo Quartet makes a long-awaited return to Philadelphia with a contemporary program on Sunday, December 18th, 2011 at 3pm at the Curtis Institute of Music.
The Independence Seaport Museum will host singers from one of the country's oldest choruses, the Mendelssohn Club and will be joined by musicians from Network for New Music on Sunday, February 26th, 2012 at 7:30pm.
St. Lawrence Quartet violinist, Scott St. John, presents an all-American program at the Curtis Institute of Music on Friday, May 18th, 2012 at 8pm.
