DUBLIN, IRELAND, September 04, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- A diverse line-up of international productions and Irish plays will be showcased at this year's Dublin Theatre Festival, which begins on Thursday September 29th.
The programme for the 18-day event features 28 shows in 25 different venues, with a new play by Daniele Finzi Pasca set to open the festival at the Gaiety Theatre.
Donka, A Letter to Chekhov, was inspired by the drama and diaries of Russia's most famous writer.
It was commissioned for last year's Chekhov International Theatre Festival and will arrive in Dublin after winning praise from critics and audiences around the world.
Other works due to be performed in the Irish capital during the festival include a new version of Henrik Ibsen's Peer Gynt.
The Rough Magic theatre company has teamed up with writer Arthur Riordan to update the Norwegian playwright's classic tale of delusion and wild imagination.
Outgoing artistic director Loughlin Deegan will preside over the Dublin Theatre Festival for the final time this year.
In a statement, he said the 2011 edition is set to benefit from "a particularly strong Irish programme, alongside many international artists and companies whose work I have been endeavouring to bring to Dublin".
