MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA, September 15, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- A landmark theater production based, in parts, on the teachings of the extraordinary philosopher, statesman and teacher known as Confucius (551- 479 BCE) will be held on Friday September 23, 2011 at 7:30PM and Saturday September 24, 2011 at 7:30PM and Saturday September 24, 2011 at 2:30PM at the Mountain View Center for Performing Arts SecondStage (500 Castro Street, Mountain View, CA 94041).
Philein/ZiRu Productions presents Zero Hour, the story of one Chinese-American's struggle for identity. The story is told through the "zero hours" of one's youth: the dilemmas we face in love, in career, in our value systems, and in our ever-changing relationships with our families. The story is about transitions in life.
Zero Hour is choreographed, written and directed by Philein Wang. The evening-length dance production features live music and draws its content and style from the history and culture of the Chinese-American duality. The production tells the story of a young Chinese mother immigrating to America and her tender and compelling relationship with her son as she watches him navigate the pitfalls of growing up within this challenging duality. Wang blends poetry, photography, painting, and live percussion with her unique motion style, Tiger Hip Hop. Tiger Hip Hop is a dynamic fusion of modern dance, hip hop, Shaolin-style martial arts, Wushu, and Tai Chi. The blend tells of the joys, sorrows and frustrations that come with cultural assimilation.
Philein Wang [choreographer, poet] created Zero Hour over a three-year period with collaborating artists Areta Wang [painter], Simon Ting [percussionist/dancer], Keith Weng [photographer], and Karen Lin [costume designer]. The production features an evening of original dances, choreographed by Philein Wang, that fully represent the struggle for identity prevalent in the Chinese-American culture. Everyone who enjoys dance, live music, and theater or has an active interest in the Chinese culture, especially as it relates to cultural assimilation in America, is encouraged to attend.
