VENTNOR, NJ, September 24, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Ocean City Operafest International is an exchange program for young singers from two countries who will live and share a bi-lingual musical experience in Hachenburg, Germany and Ocean City, New Jersey. The students who went to the German Westerwald area in May of 2011 for a week long workshop, now welcome their new German colleagues to Ocean City where they all join additional cast members for a week here.
The opera, "Little Red Riding Hood" by Seymour Barab, stars Kenneth Young, retired from the Metropolitan Opera Chorus, as the wolf, and the role of Little Red is shared by Abby Murphy from Galloway and Julia Koegler of Hachenburg. The mother is Isabelle Benvenuti from Upper Township, and the Grandmother is Florentine Schumacher from Hachenburg. The woodsman is young Melvin Fuchs also of Hachenburg, and sharing the role is Matt Caufield of Ocean City. The opera is interactive, with child volunteers from the audience becoming part of the animated set.
The Philadelphia and South Jersey areas are the location of many immigrants from the Westerwald area in Western Germany. Fox Vocal Arts, the producer of the exchange, welcomes Hammonton's Paul Morris Dance Explosion as a collaborator in the project. Paul's dancers join the Operfest company in these performances. Paul Morris is an Ocean City native, as is Nancy Fox, the producer of many of the areas classic musical events.
