BEVERLY HILLS, CA, September 28, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- A breast lift is a procedure that raises and reshapes your breasts in order to restore a more youthful appearance. A breast lift can improve sagging, restore loss of shape and provide firmness that may have been lost as a result of age, pregnancy or decrease in skin elasticity.
The Procedure and Incisions
Several different techniques can be used in a breast lift, depending on your individual condition. The actual surgery consists of removing excess skin from around your areola (and sometimes from the bottom of your breast) and then reshaping your breast tissue and tightening your skin. The position of your nipple and areola can also be elevated to appear more youthful and perky.
The specific breast lift techniques vary, but they generally fall into two categories:
- The concentric (or doughnut) mastopexy for women with smaller and less droopy breasts
- The anchor-shaped mastopexy (the most common)
The more tissue that is cut, the more shaping that is possible. Women with significant sagging will often require a larger incision to remove enough tissue to lift your breast.
Scarring
There will be some degree of scarring associated with your breast lift. The scars will be noticeable for the first few months.
Over the next few months, the scars will continue to fade into thin white lines that will barely be noticeable, although they will never disappear completely. Cortisone creams and silicone sheeting can help reduce the appearance of breast lift scars. When considering the long-term results of breast lift surgery, many women feel that small, subtle scars are a fair trade-off for firm and younger-looking breasts.
Scar Revision Surgery
If you are unhappy with the appearance of your scars following your breast lift, scar revision surgery may be able to help. Poor healing may contribute to scars that are obvious or unsightly. Some scars are raised, others are recessed. They can range in size, shape, color and texture. Your treatment options may vary based on the type and degree of scarring, but may include:
- Topical treatments
- Minimally invasive procedures
- Surgical revision with advanced techniques in wound closure
Scar revision surgery aims to minimize the scar so that it is more consistent with your surrounding skin tone and texture. Although scar revision can provide a more aesthetic result, it cannot completely erase a breast lift scar.
Is Scar Revision for Me?
You should only undergo scar revision to please yourself. Scar revision surgery may be right for you if you:
- Have a positive outlook and realistic goals for your scar revision surgery
- Are physically healthy
- Do not smoke
- Do not have active acne or other skin diseases in the area to be treated
