RALEIGH, NC, October 04, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- One of North Carolina's most reputable engineering, planning and architectural firms, The Wooten Company is celebrating 75 years of business success on October 3, 2011. In honor of this momentous occasion, the firm is commemorating some of the most impressive projects it has undertaken in its 75-year history.
The Start of Something Big
In October 1936, Edgecombe County native Louis E. Wooten formed L.E. Wooten and Company as one of the area's first full-service engineering businesses. After Louis E. Wooten, Jr, joined as Vice President in 1951 and Willis D. Barlow joined shortly thereafter, the firm secured contracts to design rural electric lines, water and sewer systems, and several other key engineering projects.
One of the most notable of these projects is the planning and development of Carter Finley Stadium at North Carolina State University in the mid-1960s. Today, Carter-Finley not only serves as the home of NC State football, but also stands as a significant engineering feat and a true Raleigh landmark.
Over the years, the firm changed its name and expanded beyond its Raleigh offices to open locations in Greenville, Hickory and Asheboro. But even as The Wooten Company's success extended into the 21st century, they have continued to maintain the right formula for solving problems and keeping clients satisfied.
"Expert advice, quality service, and a customer-first approach," said Bucky Moore, president of The Wooten Company. "That's what made us so successful over the years, and that's why our clients keep coming back to us. We've never wavered from that approach in 75 years, and it will continue to be our guide for the future."
The firm also extended their services to include sanitary/environmental engineering, general civil engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, community planning, architecture, landscape architecture, and GIS/mapping services. In addition, The Wooten Company eventually began securing financing for local government projects and, since the early 1990s, the firm has helped raise over a quarter of a billion dollars in funds for infrastructure improvements and community enhancements.
A History of Engineering Accomplishments
The Wooten Company's development of numerous in-house services helped to secure significant contracts with municipalities, government entities and businesses all over the state. These contracts led to successful completion of several key projects that have affected local communities and helped them build their neighborhood and business infrastructures. The firm took on the planning of water and sewer infrastructure for the Wake County portion of Research Triangle Park, neighborhood development strategies for Raleigh, and buildings for schools and businesses in Wake and Durham Counties. Closer to the eastern coast, they've addressed such projects as: water supply infrastructure for the Neuse Regional Water and Sewer Authority (NRWASA); stormwater drainage and management improvements for the Cities of Greenville and Washington; GPS and GIS mapping services for the Towns of Edenton and Beaufort; and LEED Enhanced Commissioning for North Carolina Aquarium Pier at Nags Head, just to name a few.
In the areas surrounding their Hickory and Asheboro offices, the firm has been responsible for: wastewater system upgrades and water treatment enhancements for local municipalities; several design projects for the NC Zoo in Asheboro; current work on the Asheboro Recycling Center and the Randolph Fellowship House; the new town hall at Rutherford College; and new de-chlorination and acid neutralization units at the Appalachian State University's water treatment plant; as well as several other projects that have made a substantial impact in the local communities.
"We've accomplished so much over the years," added Moore, "it's difficult to grasp how many lives we've touched and how many local communities have been impacted."
A Year-Long Celebration
In keeping with the "diamond" anniversary theme, The Wooten Company held special events this summer for their offices in Raleigh, Greenville, Hickory and Asheboro during select baseball games of the Durham Bulls, the Kinston Indians, and the Hickory Crawdads. The events included activities for local employees, clients and their families, as well as recognition by the local communities for The Wooten Company's successes over the years.
The firm also held an invitation-only golf tournament for clients and employees on June 3 to show its appreciation for the individuals and groups that contributed to The Wooten Company's growth and success over the past 75 years. To culminate the celebration, the firm will hold an anniversary celebration for all employees on October 3, The Wooten Company's actual birthday.
"This is truly an exciting time for The Wooten Company," said Moore. "We thought this would be the perfect opportunity to celebrate our achievements over the past 75 years while bringing attention to some of our more recent projects that will help meet North Carolina's infrastructure needs over the next several years."
The Wooten Company is focused on strategic planning and development of buildings and infrastructure for the people of North Carolina as the state continues to grow in the near future. For more information, please visit The Wooten Company's website at www.thewootencompany.com.
