NEW YORK, NY, October 17, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- October 17th 2011 marks an important anniversary for New York wood furniture manufacturer, Gothic Cabinet Craft (http://www.gothiccabinetcraft.com/). 10 years ago on this date, Gothic suffered a devastating fire that resulted in the loss of its factory in Astoria New York.
Despite this terrible tragedy Gothic Cabinet Craft was able to rebuild in just a few months thanks to its dedicated staff, customers, and suppliers. In the last ten years Gothic has continued to grow and navigate its way through extremely difficult challenges such as the difficult economy and the loss of its founder. We would like to thank our staff, customers, and suppliers for the continued support and loyalty over the years.
Below is a portion of an article written in the NY Times reminding us of the past and what Gothic Cabinet Craft has achieved;
A furniture warehouse in Astoria, Queens, was destroyed yesterday in a four-alarm fire, one of the first major blazes that city firefighters have battled since the Sept. 11 attack on the World Trade Center, the Fire Department said.
The fire at Gothic Cabinet Craft, at 2750 First Street, whose cause is under investigation, drew 168 firefighters from 33 units and took 15 hours to bring under control. Two firefighters were treated for minor injuries.
The blaze was only the second four-alarm fire in New York City since Sept. 11, when 343 firefighters died. After battling the blaze yesterday, some firefighters said it represented a return to the duties they were trained for.
''This is what we do, this is what we're good at,'' said Lt. Peter Marino, a 12-year veteran from Flushing. ''We get called to do everything from A to Z.''
The fire, fueled by wooden furniture and lacquers, ignited on the first floor around 1:30 a.m., quickly rose to the roof and burst the windows, fire officials said. Knowing the amount of flammable materials inside, firefighters tried to douse the flames from ladders.
At 3:08 a.m., the fourth alarm was sounded. The building continued to smolder yesterday as darkness fell.
Gothic Cabinet Craft President, Aristidis Zaharopoulos, says "The firefighters worked around the clock, trying to save the store and prevent further damage. We at Gothic Cabinet Craft are grateful everyday for how supportive the community was after that fire. We're lucky to have such loyal staff members, customers and friends in the neighborhood who were there to help us."
