Cookie Baking Class Shares Time-Honored Baking Secrets; Recipes with Inn Guests

    COLUMBUS, OH, October 27, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Inn & Spa at Cedar Falls will teach guests how to infuse their own homes with the same simple, homespun warmth for which the Inn is so well known during its annual Holiday Cookie Baking Classes. Held December 4 and 9, 2011, guests will join Innkeeper Ellen Grinsfelder and Inn Breakfast Chef Joan Heitman as they share their favorite holiday cookie recipes and baking tips. 2011 marks the 15th year the Inn at Cedar Falls has hosted its popular Cookie Baking Classes. For just $55 per person, guests will learn to bake and take home five different varieties of holiday cookies and candies from family recipes handed down for generations and carefully selected by Ellen and Joan. Class includes instruction, recipes, lunch and a box of cookies to take home.

"Some of our guests are simply looking for wonderful new holiday cookie recipes, while others want to learn professional baking tips, which are handed down generation to generation at the Inn & Spa at Cedar Falls," said Innkeeper Ellen Grinsfelder. "This is a great opportunity for them to share a special day with others who are interested in enhancing the time-honored tradition of holiday baking." Grinsfelder added that some of the Inn's Cookie Baking guests have made the event an annual tradition among friends and family, attending every year.

Classes will begin at 11:00 a.m. and run until 2:00 p.m. Guests are welcome to make a getaway out of the event by staying overnight at the Inn & Spa at Cedar Falls and enjoying a special 25% discount, offered exclusively to baking class participants. Reservations are necessary, since classes are always a sell out and each class is limited to 20 participants and can be made by calling 1-800-653-2557.

The Inn & Spa at Cedar Falls is located just a 1/2 mile above the scenic Cedar Falls and offers a variety of recreational opportunities, including hiking, a zipline canopy tour, bird watching, kayaking and fishing, as well as exquisite photo scenes and a full-service spa. This is a favorite recipe used at past cookie baking classes at the Inn & Spa at Cedar Falls. The recipe came from Innkeeper Ellen Grinsfelder's German grandmother. These cookies are simple to make and it is a fun recipe to try with children.

Grandma Grinsfelder's
Leibkuchen Cookies

4 eggs
1 lb. dark brown sugar
2 cups flour
1 cup raisins
2 1/3 Tbs. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. cloves
1/4 tsp. allspice
1/4 tsp. nutmeg

Icing
1 cup powdered sugar
1 Tbs. fresh lemon juice

Preheat oven to 300 degrees F. Mix eggs and sugar. Add all other ingredients. Spread and bake in a greased jellyroll pan for 30-40 minutes until lightly browned. Ice while warm. Makes two dozen.
