Hire Disability Solutions Announces Workshops for its 2011 Veterans' Career Expo on November 7th; "Be a Hero, Hire a Hero" Will Include Workshops on Resume Critique & Development

    WEST NYACK, NY, November 02, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- HireDS, LLC - a certified disabled owned company promoting the inclusion of our veterans and people with disabilities into mainstream employment - today announced its workshops for veterans and their families as part of its 2011 Veterans' Career Expo. The expo, themed "Be a Hero, Hire a Hero," is scheduled for November 7thin New York City aboard the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum, as well as running virtually online simultaneously and for thirty days thereafter spanning military bases around the globe.

The following workshops which are being led by the New York State Department of Labor, will include resume tips, development and critiquing services to better prepare Veterans for their job interviews.

-- Resume Workshop (Prelude to Resume Critique) will be held at from 10:00 am (45 minute session) to discuss the importance of a resume, the different types of resume styles, and important points of information that should be included. A Resume Writing Information Packet will be provided to attendees as a handout and will include samples of various types of resume styles along with resume tips.

-- Resume Critique will be available from 10:45 am to 3:30 pm. Employment Counselors and Labor Service Representative will provide participants with information on how to create a quality resume and the various types of resumes there are. -- Interview Methods & Strategies "Linking Veterans and Businesses" will run 2 times per hour in 15-minute intervals beginning 10:00 am and ending at 2:00 pm depending on attendance. Employment Counselors will be available to provide attendees with interview methods (Formal vs. Informal) interviewing strategies and tips they can use in their work search. A one-page handout of techniques will be provided to customers.

The unemployment rate among veterans has remained disproportionately high, staggering around 13.4% - more than 4 percentage points higher than the national average - according to the latest figures released by the U.S. Department of Labor.
