Jimilu Mason Recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for Excellence in Sculpture

Ms. Mason has been selected as a VIP member for 2011-2012

ALEXANDRIA, VA, November 2, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Jimilu Mason has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in sculpture.

A veteran artist, Jimilu Mason has 51 years of experience as a sculptor. She creates work in cast bronze, stone and welded metal. She has worked with individuals, companies, organizations, architects, and communities in the planning and execution of her sculpture. Her work is featured in many indoor and outdoor public installations, museums and private collections around the world. Ms. Mason is noted for her portrait busts of famous historical figures, including former president Lyndon B. Johnson. She has spoken to audiences both in the U.S. and abroad about her thoughts on the purpose of art, the inner life of an artist, and the style with which she has managed her career. She is currently working on an enlargement of her memorial to the victims of the World Trade Center attacks.

Ms. Mason earned a Bachelor of Arts from The George Washington University in 1953, having received an Associate of Art from American University in 1951. She has been a member of Church of the Saviour since 1957. She is also a member of the Artists Equity Association of Washington, DC and was appointed to the National Council of Art by President Lyndon B. Johnson in1966.

In years to come, Ms. Mason hopes to increase awareness of the societal value of placing works of art not only in museums and the more prominent areas of our cities, but also in those public areas where the value of art, to the citizens who live there, has not been sufficiently considered.
