SURREY, ENGLAND, November 11, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Last year (2010) saw unprecedented spending online during the holiday season compared to 2009. Q3 of 2011 was the 12th consecutive period of growth for ecommerce, so one would certainly expect online retailers to be jumping with joy once again.
In 2010 the holiday season (November - December) produced online sales of over $32.6 billion. That's up 12% for the same period the year before. All of this is despite the global recession that has seemingly shaken retail to its core.
So what is behind the growth? One theory might be that previously un-web-savvy industries are now catching up with those who have been making money online for years. Whilst you may have been able to purchase electronic goods online for around ten years, certain industries are only just waking up to ecommerce.
One such business is British Antique Replicas (www.britishantiquereplicas.com), who specialise in reproduction furniture built by hand to look exactly like the originals. The antique furniture business has been pretty antique in attitude towards the web, but now many manufacturers and retailers are pushing more effort and money into ecommerce:
Damon Lefton, Company Director: "We are developing our website to increase our online profile with the aim of reaching a much wider audience who are interested in traditional English furniture."
Time will only tell if this growth will continue and see ecommerce come out on top this Christmas...
