National Adoption Day 2011

Thousands of families are united through adoption on National Adoption Day each year and this year, November 19th is National Adoption Day.

MESA, AZ, November 19, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- This and every November is National Adoption Awareness Month all across the United States. This year's National Adoption Month theme is "Build Capacity to Make Lasting Change" and the focus is helping foster children between the ages of nine and twelve find their forever families. Part of this initiative involves the recruitment of foster parents and potential adoptive families, as the need is great. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, there are over 400,000 children in foster care, with 107,000 of those children waiting to be adopted into a permanent, loving, stable home.

Because every day of the month of November is important, Adoption.com has created a National Adoption Month Calendar of daily ideas for those looking for unique ways to celebrate this month. Even so, one of the most important and life-changing days during National Adoption Month is Saturday, November 19th, 2011, which is National Adoption Day. National Adoption Day is when families across the country travel to their local courthouses to have their adoptions finalized and their lives made complete and whole. Alongside the adoptive parents and children, judges, adoption policymakers, and thousands of volunteers make it a memorable day for all those involved and everyone in attendance.

According to NationalAdoptionDay.org, just on National Adoption Day alone, over 35,000 children have had their adoptions finalized since the year 2000. While the main point of National Adoption Day is to finalize adoptions, it's also a day of celebration. It's a celebration for those children who have found their forever families and for the parents who have made it through the long and tedious adoption process and have finally made it to finalization. It's also a celebration of life, love, and family. As such, National Adoption Day is the epitome of this month's focus--connecting waiting children and families, helping them reach adoption finalization, and providing post- adoption support for all sides of the adoption triad.

For those wanting to participate in National Adoption Day, there are several easy and fun ways to spread the word about adoption, support those having their adoptions finalized, and give thanks to those who make it all possible:

Spread the Word - Spreading the word about adoption can be easy. Participants can volunteer at a local adoption-related booth or with a local or national adoption effort. Another way to spread the word about how adoption can change lives is for participants to blog or actively use social media accounts and share their personal adoption experiences or how adoption has affected people they know personally. Spreading the word can be as simple as teaching local school children about adoption and foster care. Adoption.com maintains a unique Photolisting featuring both domestic and international children waiting for homes. For those looking for additional ways to spread the word of National Adoption Month and of the many foster children in need of stable forever families, the Adoption.com Photo Listing Widget can be placed on blogs and websites for easy sharing.

Show Support - Because adoption finalizations happen on National Adoption Day across the country, those wishing to show their support can attend a local finalization, as these are generally open to the public.

Give Thanks - It takes a myriad of people to make adoption work. First, there are the birth parents, adoptive parents, and the adoptees. There are also the adoption lawyers, mediators, social workers, adoption agency workers, counselors, and judges and courthouse workers. All of these people are necessary participants in the eventuality of the adoption finalization. And because all of these people work hard and make sacrifices to make adoption possible, it's important to give thanks, show appreciation, and acknowledge all involved parties. This can be done through a simple letter, email, or through a verbal conversation.

Adoption.com helps birth families reconnect through a comprehensive and easy-to-use Reunion Registry and advocates for the birth families, adoptive families, adoptees, and foster children who may not have a voice. Adoption.com is dedicated to all sides of the adoption community and the advancement of positive relationships within the community, promoting the making of informed decisions, and respecting and honoring all those who make adoption possible.

National Adoption Month and Day are important events every year--important to all those touched by adoption and even those who do not have personal adoption experience. With all the sacrifices from adoption triad members in mind, Adoption.com has grown to become the #1 online adoption resource. Adoption.com also has active forums and blogs to help the adoption community flourish, connect members of the adoption community through positive, uplifting, and honest interaction, and inform those looking for answers.
