What is the Return on Investment for a Solar Power System?
Simple Energy Works believes that installing a solar power system is great for the environment, but it also must make financial sense for the customer. Here are a couple Tennessee solar energy case study summaries of customers who are receiving a great ROI on their Tennessee solar system.
Simple Energy Works installed a 27.6 kW Photovoltaic Solar Array using Sharp 230w Modules and Enphase Microinverters for office building owners Thomas and Yolita Nosarzewski in Crossville, Tennessee. Thomas and Yolita were able to take advantage of the 25% USDA Rural Energy for America Grant and also the 30% 1603 US Treasury Grant. They are able to use 100% bonus accelerated depreciation (in year one) on the whole cost basis of the system. On top of the incentives they were also able to participate in the Tennessee Solar Institute grant. The solar system will pay for itself very quickly. The solar power system generates almost 37,000 kWh per year. Because of the generation partner contract with Tennessee Valley Authority, who is buying all of the electricity produced by the array at a premium, 300% of their electrical bills are accounted for. Each month the solar energy system is generating a surplus of profit! Rather than paying an electrical bill each month, Thomas and Yolita are now receiving an income each and every month from their utility and TVA.
Simple Energy Works installed a Tennessee solar power system at Camp Nakanawa in Middle Tennessee that features a 13.34 kW Photovoltaic Array using Sharp 230w Modules and Enphase Microinverters. The camp was able to take advantage of the USDA Rural Energy for America twenty-five percent cost share Grant and also the thirty percent cost share 1603 US Treasury Grant. Furthermore, Camp Nakanawa will be able to use bonus accelerated depreciation on the whole cost basis of the system. The PV solar system will pay for itself in about six years. From then on the camp owners will be enjoying "FREE" energy for the life of the system, which has a warrantee of twenty-five years but useful life may be closer to forty years. The solar energy system generates over 17,000 kWh per year. Because of the contract with the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), who is buying all of the electricity produced by the array at a premium price, this accounts for close to 50% of the camp's electrical bills.
