DORSET, ENGLAND, December 28, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- An upcoming event at the Dorset County Museum will give visitors a chance to learn about the region's many lost ships.
At 19:30 GMT on Friday January 20th 2012, Gordon LePard of Dorset County Council is set to delve into the fascinating maritime history of the area in a talk entitled Dorset Shipwrecks.
Mr LePard has an interest in maritime archaeology and is said to be aware of more than 500 shipwrecks along the coast of the county.
Some of the sunken vessels he will discuss date from the Roman and medieval periods, while others have been identified as casualties of more recent conflicts, such as the wars of the 20th century.
Doors for the lecture will open at 19:00, with tickets priced at GBP2 on the door.
Situated on High West Street in Dorchester, the Dorset County Museum features a number of collections and galleries devoted to archaeology, geology, history and art.
Current exhibitions at the venue include Pharoah: King of Egypt, which is due to run until January 22nd and is the largest UK loan of Egyptian artefacts ever undertaken by the British Museum.
