Cash Prizes Offered for Amateur Cake Decorating Competition at Home & Garden Show

    COLUMBUS, OH, December 30, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The 2012 Central Ohio Home & Garden Show, presented by gridSMART from AEP Ohio, announced today that it will again hold its Amateur Cake Decorating Competition. This year's competition will take place on Sunday, February 26, 2012, when five of the region's most talented amateur cake decorators will have the chance to compete for cash prizes before a live audience. The 2012 Central Ohio Home & Garden Show is slated for February 25 - March 4 at the Ohio Expo Center.

Cake decorators are encouraged to submit one high-quality color photo, plus a description, of a past cake masterpiece to [email protected] or by mail to Central Ohio Home & Garden Show Amateur Cake Decoration Competition, Attn: Christy Muhoberac, The Columbus Dispatch, 34 S. Third St., Columbus, OH 43215. Entries must be received by noon on Wednesday, January 18, 2012 for consideration. Jpeg attachments should be 300 dpi or mailed prints must be at least 4" X 6". Entrants must be at least 18 years of age and include their name, mailing address, e-mail address, date of birth and daytime phone number. The five most creative decorators will be chosen for the live competition on February 26, where they will decorate a cake before a live audience and compete for cash prizes at the Central Ohio Home & Garden Show. Show guests can watch the Amateur Cake Decorating Competition from 2:00-3:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 26, with setup taking place from 1:00-2:00 p.m., judging will take place from 3:00-3:30 p.m. Show guests will have the opportunity to sample one of the cakes following judging. The Cake Competition theme is "Happy Birthday, Columbus," which coincides with the theme for the Garden Showcase at the 56th Annual Central Ohio Home & Garden Show. Decorators are challenged to find creative inspiration in a Columbus icon, past or present as featured in the 11 full-size living landscapes. Each garden will feature one of Columbus's greatest icons or landmarks that embrace the best of our city. The Grand Prize winner will receive $500 cash and second place receives $250 cash.

The 2012 Central Ohio Home & Garden Show, presented by gridSMART from AEP Ohio, begins Saturday, Feb. 25, and runs through Sunday, March 4, at the Ohio Expo Center. The show's extended hours can accommodate day trips, corporate and social groups and clubs and the after-five crowd. For 2012, show hours are: Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Sundays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Tuesday-Friday, noon to 9 p.m., CLOSED MONDAY, February 27th. Tickets are $12 at the door for adults.
