New Invention - Automatic Hay Soaker for Horses

    GRANITE BAY, CA, January 07, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Soaking hay is not a new idea. However, with The Soaker, a new invention by Jennifer Azevedo, there is a new way to get it done. The Soaker is an automatic hay and feed soaker. What is an automatic hay soaker? It is an apparatus that soaks dry feed with water for the purpose of removing sugar, contaminants, for the overall health of the horse. The Soaker automatically fills, soaks, and drains without human interference, leaving perfectly soaked hay that is ready to feed.

Anyone that has soaked hay knows that it is a laborious and wet task. Cut grass, when dried and baled has a water content of less than 10%. This lowered water content increases sugar, potassium, acidity, and contaminant content. Soaking hay is a proactive approach to reduce the risk of numerous equine ailments.

The Soaker was inspired by a horse. The inventor, Azevedo, rescued an off the track thoroughbred (OTTB) named Max. (you may follow his story at akaprojectmax.blogspot.com) The horse was foundering in all four feet and was 250lbs. underweight. Azevedo immediately began soaking Max's hay the good old fashioned way...in a bucket. Three times a day, seven days a week. Azevedo quickly learned that soaking hay was a back breaking, wet, heavy, and time consuming endeavor. "I was getting up at 5:30 in the morning to soak his hay. I knew there had to be an easier and more reliable way" states Azevedo. Thus, The Soaker was invented.

Azevedo began creating and building designs for The Soaker. After countless months and prototypes, a proper and portable soaker was born. She applied for patent and began the process of manufacturing. "Portability and reliability is key. My horse depends on his hay being soaked." says Azevedo. The Soaker is completely portable and only requires a hose spigot to work. Once attached to the hose spigot, absolutely no electricity is needed to run. It is completely water powered and has the capability to be completely automated. Meaning, once hooked up with timers, The Soaker will fill, soak, and drain your horse's food automatically, every day, every time. In short, at feeding time, you have freshly soaked and drained hay ready to feed.
