Security Solutions International Announces Speakers for its Annual Homeland Security Conference at the Gaylord Palms on November 5th-7th 2012

    MIAMI, FL, January 09, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- This year's 7th annual Counter Terrorist Magazine's Homeland Security Professionals conference is taking place at the Gaylord Palms in Orlando, Florida and big demand to hear the speakers is expected. Professionals won't just be attending from Florida's law enforcement, homeland security, Fire, rescue and emergency management. Past years have seen representatives from as far afield as Saipan and everywhere in the USA and Canada. This year's theme is expected to also draw significantly from private sector security.

- Dr. Tania Glenn responded to the terrorists' attacks at the Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City in 1995 and to Ground Zero in New York City in 2001, as a first responder and licensed clinician. In responding to manmade and natural disasters, Tania also reported to New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Having worked with thousands of homeland defense and security professionals in supporting multiple military campaigns and/or critical incidents, Dr. Glenn specializes in the identification and treatment of severe stress and trauma. Dr. Glenn has practiced psychology for twenty years interacting with professionals from the federal, state, and local arenas.

Workshop - a comprehensive overview of stress and trauma based on her first hand experiences in Oklahoma City, New York City, and New Orleans. The second portion of the workshop will address the importance of programmatic support for those who combat terrorism including: quality pre and post-deployment briefs; active peer support coupled with effective and targeted clinical support; the importance of an organizational culture that embraces healing; and, recent PTSD findings.

- Bob Palestrant has over three decades of experience serving South Florida as a paramedic/firefighter, registered nurse and emergency manager. He served in multiple command level positions while at Miami-Dade Fire Rescue including that of Fire Chief at Miami International Airport, Operations District Chief, Director of the Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security, and as the first Division Chief for Domestic Preparedness. As Domestic Preparedness Chief, his responsibilities included Homeland Security, management of major pre-planned events, and serving as department liaison for all federal organizations, the military, and state and local law enforcement agencies.

Palestrant was a member of multiple federal, state and regional anti-terrorism workgroups, and worked with the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA), to provide training for military and civilian personnel. He was a member of the Florida Task Force I Urban Search and Rescue Team, and was on several deployments, including the World Trade Center tragedy. He has been a panel member or given presentations on emergency management issues at multiple conferences and symposiums across the country and abroad.

Presentation - Palestrant will focus on the Terrorism Liaison Officer Training - The primary goal of the TLO is to create and maintain a network of fire department, law enforcement, emergency management, military, health department and select private sector personnel that can responsibly and expeditiously collect and share information and vital intelligence related to terrorist threats. The program is intended for personnel throughout the operational area to maintain real-time awareness of terrorist trends, tactics and procedures, alert them to the types of suspicious activities that they may encounter that may have a terrorism nexus, and to establish a network for efficient reporting. TLOs share information in order to increase public safety by making timely and accurate information available to all decision-makers, improving the accuracy of information by having data available to all participating agencies, the implementation or enhancement of that information-sharing environment, and rapid identification of both immediate and long-term threats outside the normal response parameters.

- Grady Jordan, Jr., was born and raised in Tallahassee, Florida and graduated from Florida State University with a degree in Political Science. His career began in 1993 as a Corrections Officer at the Leon County Jail. Sergeant Jordan has worked in Uniform Patrol, VICE/Narcotics Unit and Violent Crime Unit. He is currently assigned as a sergeant in the Homeland Security Unit which encompasses criminal street gangs, criminal intelligence and terrorism investigations. The unit is responsible for maintaining and procuring all the Homeland Security Assets in the region as well as working with the Joint Terrorism Task Force and the Regional Domestic Security Task Force. The criminal street gang portion of the unit works with numerous agencies on gang matters including investigating, tracking criminal street gangs and prevention programs. Sgt. Jordan is also an assistant squad leader for the LCSO SWAT Team and Honor Guard.

In October of 2005, Sgt. Jordan was elected to be the Northwest Regional Director of the Florida Gang Investigators Association and is now the Sergeant at Arms. Sgt. Jordan has traveled throughout the State of Florida teaching and lecturing on criminal street gangs. Sgt. Jordan has conducted basic gang training for LCSO members, employees of Florida Department of Juvenile Justice, Leon County School Board and Washington County School Board. He has done lectures for churches, homeowners associations, civic groups in the Leon County area and is frequently a guest lecturer at Tallahassee Community College Criminal Justice Department. Sgt. Jordan has done numerous interviews for state and local media outlets addressing regional and statewide gang issues.

Sgt. Jordan was a member of the City of Tallahassee Mayor's Gang Task Force and the State of Florida Attorney General's Gang Control Strategy Work Group. This working group was tasked with developing the first ever gang control strategy for the State of Florida. He is currently the Region 2 Coordinator for the Gang Reduction Task Force.

Sgt. Jordan is a member of the current Leadership Tallahassee Class 28 and was recently named to the Board of Directors for Boys and Girls Clubs of the Big Bend.
