ST TROPEZ, FRANCE, January 12, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- As we move from December and into the New Year the focus of the luxury yacht market swings firmly from the Mediterranean to Florida and the Caribbean, where the mild winter weather makes for some of the most pleasant conditions for yachting. In this press release Fraser Yachts is pleased to bring you the latest yacht brokerage news, including news from the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, the latest trends in luxury yacht sales, and last but not least, an interesting report on explorer yacht sales.
The Sunshine State failed to live up to its name as wet and windy weather hit the 2011 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, which took place between the 28th and 31st of October. Due to the adverse weather conditions the show attracted a somewhat disappointing turnout. Fortunately the show still managed to attract a good number of qualified clients and we are delighted to report that we are continuing to reap the benefits of this year's Monaco Yacht Show, which took place between the 21st and 24th of September and enjoyed far more clement weather than its Floridian counterpart.
As we touched on in the last paragraph, Fraser Yachts has continued to experience an encouraging increase in the number of luxury yacht sales in comparison with recent years. This news comes despite the recent increase in global economic turbulence, which has not affected the yacht brokerage market as much as had been feared, although there has been an inevitable downturn. For most of the year it has been the smaller yachts that have been selling and moving off the market, however this trend appears to be changing with a small number of larger luxury yachts for sale beginning to move off the market. This slow but nevertheless sure increase in yacht sales has been underlined by significant interest from buyers at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, and although yacht prices are still significantly lower than pre-2008 levels, they are at least beginning to stabilise.
Fraser Yachts has also identified a recent trend of increased interest in explorer yachts, which suggest that owners are seeking more autonomy and more toys. On the one hand there is an increasing demand for solidly built vessels with ice class hulls, extended storage for remote cruising and the capability to handle and store more provisions onboard, which reduces the reliance of these yachts on onshore-support. On the other hand, there is also an increasing interest in Mediterranean explorer yachts, which might be explained by their increased capacity for more and larger toys, in combination with their more masculine style and design, which helps them stand out from the crowd.
