CHICAGO, IL, February 03, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- For over a year, eleven Plaintiffs were abused by officers who have been convicted of theft, racketeering and drug possession. Lead by convicted officer Corey Flagg, they stole thousands from Plaintiffs. The officers broke into their home, threatening to arrest a son or brother if money was not handed over.
Officers Haynes, Flag, Jones and Black are all serving time in a federal penitentiary. The history of abuse perpetrated by these officers was well known to the city. It was only when the FBI and US attorney stepped in that the City was forced to investigate.
Innocent family members (including a disabled man and elderly woman) were routinely handcuffed and abused until money was handed over. Attorney Blake Horwitz settled this federal lawsuit on behalf of his clients. "Now they can try to put this horror behind them," he comments.
Family members will be available at the press conference.
The Law Offices of Blake Horwitz, a nation wide civil rights law firm, filed the lawsuit on behalf of the Plaintiffs. Mr. Horwitz has had many successes in the field of police misconduct, including a $28,000,000.00 verdict against the City of Chicago, the largest police
brutality verdict in the Midwest.
