ROCKVILLE, MD, February 14, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- History Associates will be on-hand for the grand opening of The Mob Museum, the National Museum of Organized Crime and Law Enforcement in Las Vegas. It opens to the public on Tuesday, February 14 - the 83rd anniversary of the St. Valentine's Day Massacre. History Associates was part of the museum's development and creative team, advising on content and assisting in locating historic images.
"The Mafia holds a certain mystique in our popular culture," noted Dr. James Lide, vice president at History Associates and researcher on the project. "Even after separating fact from fiction, the exhibits highlight an amazing array of fascinating stories. The museum provides a deep insight into the role played by organized crime in American history and how our law enforcement agencies have struggled to combat it."
History Associates was part of a world-class development team, which was led by Westlake Reed Leskosky (WRL), a nationally recognized design and engineering firm; Hardy Construction, Inc., a dynamic general construction firm; Gallagher & Associates, an interdisciplinary design firm; Chattel Architecture, Planning & Preservation, Inc., consulting preservation architect; and Kathleen Hickey Barrie of Barrie Projects, curator; Northern Light Productions, film production; Snibbe Interactive, social immersive media; Pacific Studios, exhibit fabrication; AVI-SPI, digital media; and Boston Productions, Inc., interactive, multi-media, and AV integration.
The Mob Museum resides in the former United States Post Office and Federal Courthouse in downtown Las Vegas. Designed as a modern museum experience, it tells the story of organized crime and law enforcement in America through the display of rare artifacts and photos, high-tech theater experiences, and interactive environments. The historic building has special significance, as it hosted the Kefauver Committee hearings, which were held to investigate the world of organized crime in the early 1950s. The actual courtroom is still there and was restored to look as it did during the hearings.
