SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA, March 02, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Hangang Yeouido Spring Flower Festival is due to return to Seoul on Friday April 13th.
Held in mid-April each year, the event celebrates the coming of spring and the abundance of colourful blooms brightening up the South Korean capital.
The highlight of the festival, which will run until Tuesday April 17th, is arguably the spectacular collection of Korean cherry trees that can be seen in Yeouido Park and the Yeouiseo-ro area.
Up to 1,600 of the trees are usually on display, with special coloured LEDs used to illuminate the blooms at night.
Visitors to Seoul at this time of year can see 90,000 spring flowers in total, with 18 species represented at the festival.
During the day, a range of street performances and exhibitions take place in the area behind the National Assembly Building.
Nearly four million people visit the festival each year, making it one of the most popular events of its kind in the country.
Shuttle bus services are offered to carry people to and from the Dangsan, Yeouido and Yeouinaru stations during the festival.
