SANTA CLARA, CA, March 19, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- While millions of accounting professionals are working the midnight oil to get Americans' tax returns complete for Uncle Sam, a few hundred accountants with brand new skills are helping small business owners improve their profits, while creating the businesses and lives of their dreams. These accountants are members of a brand new group called Accountant's Accelerator that's led by accounting industry veteran Sandi Smith Leyva. Coaching and especially group coaching programs such as Accountant's Accelerator is relatively new to the accounting profession; especially for the very small accounting practice with 1 to 5 employees.
Sandi believes that accounting professionals, your local bookkeeper or tax professional, are some of the biggest untapped resources in this country when it comes to having the skills to help small business owners and individuals in financial distress turn around their economic situation and put a dent in improving the overall economy.
Sandi notes, "Bookkeepers are the first people to see their clients overspending and making financial errors that can lead to their demise." However, not all bookkeepers feel comfortable communicating with their clients about their spending habits. "I want to help accounting professionals open the dialog with small business owners so they can help each other more effectively," says Sandi Smith Leyva, President. "One thing we do in Accountant's Accelerator is teach a program called Breakthrough by Spreadsheet that accountants can then teach to their clients. It gives small business owners the "ahas" they need without the accountant having to get preachy about financial habits."
In addition, Accountant's Accelerator members are developing their own programs and products to empower their small business clients:
"With profit margins shrinking, it's even more important to track the true job costs as so many businesses miss out on really knowing their costs," says Monica Muir, an accounting software expert in the Accountant's Accelerator program who developed a webinar series to help companies in the construction and landscaping industries increase their accuracy with job-costing.
Another Accountant's Accelerator member, Gita Faust, is a real estate accounting expert. Her popular book series, Manage Properties with QuickBooks, shows landlords, property managers and real estate brokers how to set up low-cost accounting software.
Accountants without programs can still help small business owners improve their financial condition by providing reports rich in decision-making metrics, installing more efficient accounting systems and letting their clients know about new developments in their field.
With the unemployment rate hovering at 8.3%, there's major job security and stability in being an accountant with solid financial skills. And, as more small business owners become more financially savvy, the overall economy will benefit.
