DENVER, CO, April 04, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Oniqua MRO Analytics (www.oniqua.com), the leading provider of analytics-based MRO optimization solutions for asset-intensive organizations, today announced that Corporacion Nacional del Cobre de Chile (Codelco), has chosen Oniqua Analytics Solution (OAS) to optimize its inventory management activities across its mining operations in Chile.
Codelco, an autonomous company owned by the Chilean State, is the main copper producer in the world, controlling approximately nine percent of the world's copper reserves. Codelco conducts its operations through seven mining divisions in Chile. Its corporate strategy is coordinated from its head office in Santiago, Chile.
"With the goal of determining the potential economic and process benefits that could be achieved by deploying OAS at Codelco, our team of MRO optimization experts conducted an onsite Business Value Assessment last year," stated Lindsay Clarke, President of the Americas, Oniqua MRO Analytics. "The Assessment uncovered significant opportunities for savings and efficiencies across Codelco's inventory management practice, as well as findings and recommendations on improvement opportunities in processes, compliance and in standardizing the material master. Once the software is fully implemented and operational, Codelco's return on investment in Oniqua will prove to be quite significant."
All Codelco businesses are under increasing pressure to control operational costs, especially where there is a requirement to liberate underutilized assets to re-invest in growth initiatives. Codelco plans on investing $18 Billion in new and expansion projects over the next several years, so all avenues to reduce operational cost are being investigated.
"Implementation of Oniqua Analytics Solution for Inventory Optimization will enable Codelco to re-direct surplus assets to more productive use throughout our mining operations, and will also support process improvement and standardization," stated Fernando Marchant, Manager of Corporate Supply, Codelco.
Project planning began with the Oniqua Business Value Assessment in July 2010. Oniqua began rolling out its analytics-based MRO optimization software solution across Codelco's mining operations in Santiago in March 2012, and OAS is expected to be in full production state for use by September 2012.
Oniqua will provide local resources and support to Codelco through its South American office in Santiago, which also supports other current Oniqua customers in South America including BHP Billiton, Xstrata Copper, Freeport McMoRan, Newmont Mining Company, Drummond Company and Vale.
Codelco, Corporacion Nacional del Cobre de Chile is an autonomous company owned by the Chilean Government whose main business is the exploration, development and exploitation of copper mineral resources and byproducts, their processing to refined copper and its commercialization. With 2011 revenue of US$12.8B, Codelco is the largest producer of copper in the world and also controls approximately nine percent of the world's reserves of copper.
