AMSTERDAM, NETHERLANDS, April 21, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Netherlands will stage its annual Queen's Day celebrations later this month and Amsterdam is one of the best places to join in the party.
Held to mark the birthday of the Queen Mother, the event will take place on Monday April 30th, when crowds will take to the streets of the city dressed in orange.
Queen Beatrix's birthday is actually on January 31st, but the weather at that time of year is typically too cold for outdoor festivities.
Open-air festivities will be held across Amsterdam throughout the night until the following evening, although the main celebrations are focused on Damrak, Leidsestraat, Rokin and Spui.
Live music will be performed on Prinsengracht and Rembrandtsplein, while Vondelpark will host an array of family-friendly entertainment and gay celebrations will be centred on the Homomonument and Reguliersdwaarsstraat.
Street trading is unregulated on the day, meaning car boot sales spring up across the city, offering a chance for shoppers to pick up a bargain.
There is also the possibility of catching a glimpse of Queen Beatrix, who traditionally attends celebrations in one or two locations each year.
Revellers will find a generous selection of places to stay in Amsterdam at LateRooms.com, including the Renaissance Amsterdam Hotel.
