PHILADELPHIA, PA, April 27, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Remember O Goddess, a new feature film, is seeking to become the first ever globally crowd-sourced Korean independent movie. Directed by Philadelphia/Seoul-based filmmaker Yoon Jung Lee, the project currently seeks finishing funds via Kickstarter.com, America's top-ranked crowd-funding platform for creative art and products.
After 21 days of running the campaign, Remember O Goddess reached over 66% ($20,865) of its $30,000 goal. Considering the average funding goal of Kickstarter projects is lower than $10,000, the current achievement of "Remember O Goddess" stands out especially as a foreign-language movie. The movie has attracted a truly global support and has received funding pledges from the UK, Canada, Peru, Italy, Austria, Australia, Sweden, Greece, Germany, Japan, Singapore as well as Korea and the US.
Lee completed the first 25 minutes of the feature in short film form which screened in many festivals in both the US and Korea. These include the LA Asian Pacific Film Festival, New York City International Film Festival, and San Diego Asian Film Festival. The short version has now been released online and brings support from global audiences who are curious about the rest of the story. It illustrates the solitude and anxiety of a man who has lost his memory in the form of a classic film noir.
Director Yoon Jung Lee completed her MFA in Film and Video at California Institute of the Arts in 2005. She has worked for Kim Ji-Woon (The Good, The Bad, The Weird), Son Jae-Gon (My Scary Girl) and many other filmmakers in the U.S. and Korea. As a film director, her short films have been screened in various venues internationally. As a visual artist, her experimental works have been introduced at galleries and museums. She also has worked as a video projection director in various performances such as dance, theater and music concerts. Through working for various important films and performances, she was able to build strong professional connections, which enabled her to recruit A-level professional crew members and actors for the production of Remember O Goddess. This includes editor Sae Kyoung Moon from Joon-ho Bong's Mother and Korean film/TV star Jungtae Kim from Dream High 2 and Banga Banga.
The screenplay of Remember O Goddess was adapted from a short story that Lee wrote when she was in high school. Unusually for a female director/writer, Lee describes a lonely man's intra conflicts in stereoscopic vision with carefully nuanced black humor. Actor Jungtae Kim who boasts his outstanding career of 14 years of film/TV acting had never played in an independent film before he chose Remember O Goddess.
Kim said: "I took the role because the story of the hidden past was mysterious and unique unlike the films that (I) had played in." Now, two years after finishing the short version, he is most enthusiastic about making Remember O Goddess as a feature film. To help publicize the film he shot and a video message asking supports for help funding the film. Moreover, Korean top actor Woo-sung Jung from The Good, The Bad, The Weird showed interest in the script and sent a video message to encourage public attention to the fundraising campaign; Director Ji-woon Kim (The Good, The Bad, The Weird) also sent a message to support the film funding while he is doing the postproduction of his Hollywood debut, The Last Stand with Arnold Schwarzenegger.
