ATLANTA, GA, May 03, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- In light of recent Atlanta metro area coyote attacks, Atlanta exterminators Team Pest USA warn Atlanta residents that pets and children should always be supervised when they go outdoors, especially after sundown.
On the night of April 14th, one Roswell family received the shock of their lives when coyotes mauled their Australian shepherd mix, Abby, to the point where she was lucky to have survived. At 40 pounds, the mauled dog is larger than the average coyote, making her an unusual target for an attack.
This attack makes it clear that coyotes in the Roswell area and elsewhere in the metro Atlanta area are becoming bolder with their aggression. Coyotes are normally shy creatures that do not attack animals their size, but desperation can force them to go after larger prey, including children and adult humans.
To avoid being the target of a coyote attack, Atlanta homeowners should be sure to keep their pets and children inside whenever possible, especially after dark. If pets or kids need to be outside after dusk, be sure to have at least one adult accompany them. Avoid feeding pets outside because coyotes are able to smell the presence of food hours after it's been cleaned away and will come back to see if they can find more.
Should a person encounter a coyote, it is important to make eye contact with the animal and back away slowly without breaking eye contact. Forcing eye contact is an aggressive signal to the coyote, who is unlikely to attack if they believe the prey they are stalking will attack back.
"Coyotes have been a growing problem in metro Atlanta for many years now," notes Brandon Pelfrey, owner of Atlanta wildlife removal company Team Pest USA. "Aggressive attacks on pets are becoming more commonplace, and it is becoming more dangerous for children to be unattended outside at night. It's important for Atlanta residents to understand this threat and know how to best avoid having it affect their lives."
Team Pest USA offers a variety of wildlife removal and control services in addition to their Atlanta pest control services. As coyotes are large and potentially dangerous animals, Team Pest USA does not recommend that homeowners attempt to trap or kill a coyote themselves. Instead, homeowners should call in a qualified Atlanta wildlife control company, like Team Pest USA, to remove the coyote pest.
