Gold Nuggets 2012 attracted 456 entries in 59 categories for attached and detached housing designs, including affordable, custom and re-use and renovation work. Also honored are diverse commercial, recreational and specialty buildings, and land planning achievements. Entries were invited for projects in the U.S. and internationally.

Judges represented a range of design, planning and development disciplines. They included: Amy Albert, Design Editor, Builder, Washington, D.C.; Daniel Gehman, AIA, Associate, Harley Ellis Devereaux of Los Angeles; Carl Lagoni, AIA, Vice Chairman, Bassenian/Lagoni Architects of Newport Beach California; Stephen Moore, AIA and CGP Certified Green Professional, BSB Design of Des Moines, Iowa; Rick New, Principal, Simple Mind Studio, Boulder, Colorado and Deanna Sihon, New Home Trends of Seattle.

Moore said he and his fellow judges found the 2012 competition both challenging and gratifying. "The entries reflected the innovative, skillful and high quality concepts development teams are producing in response to challenging markets," he said. "We had a very tough time choosing winners from so many excellent entries."

"Residential categories especially showed that an exceptionally high bar has been set nationally and internationally," added Lagoni. "We were truly impressed by the design work we saw across the range of project types."
