NEW ORLEANS, LA, June 14, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Today there is a great deal of confusion and frustration within the maritime industry about the U.S. Coast Guard's Marine Accident Report (CG-2692) and the overall policy and procedures surrounding its use. Once a report is filed, a variety of consequences can ensue, not all of which are always appropriate to the case and which can cause unnecessary disruptions to commercial maritime operations. Mariners have also found uneven application of the report in different Coast Guard districts around the country.
To address some of the biggest issues surrounding the policy and what can be done to alleviate them, WorkBoat.com has scheduled a June 20 webinar with representatives from the Passenger Vessel Association and the towing vessel industry. The one-hour webinar begins at 11 a.m. (eastern).
The webinar, "Marine Casualty Confusion - Understanding CG2692 Reporting," presenters include Paul Belforti, President, Passenger Vessel Association; Captain Alan Bernstein, Owner, BB Riverboats; Peter Lauridsen, Regulatory Affairs Consultant, Passenger Vessel Association; and, Fred Nyhuis, Operations Engineer, Marathon Marine Division, Marathon Petroleum Company LP. The webinar will be moderated by Bruce Buls, Technical Editor, WorkBoat magazine.
Buls noted that a representative from the Coast Guard has also been invited to participate in the webinar. Lauridsen, who is one of the webinar speakers, served the Coast Guard for 29 years, retiring as Deputy Chief of the Office of Marine Safety, Security, and Environmental Protection at Coast Guard Headquarters. Most of his assignments were in marine safety.
The cost to attend the webinar is $59. To register for the webinar, visit www.WorkBoat.com.
