Michigan Plastic Surgeon Calls Chin Implants the Newest Trend

Chin implants are experiencing a huge surge in popularity, and video chatting and other social media are getting the credit. Dr. William J. Vasileff says plastic surgeons in Michigan and across the country are seeing demand for the procedure rise.

BIRMINGHAM, MI, June 15, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. William J. Vasileff of the Birmingham Institute for Plastic Surgery notes that plastic surgeons in Michigan and throughout the U.S. are seeing more patients interested in chin augmentation.

Anecdotal information indicates that as men and women spend more time video chatting, they are noticing laxity in their jaw lines. This, coupled with baby boomers' desire to compete with younger colleagues, has fueled the trend, Dr. Vasileff believes.

According to new statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the number of chin augmentations performed in the U.S. increased 71 percent between 2010 and 2011, more than breast augmentation, BOTOX injections and liposuction combined. The highest increase was among people ages 40 to 54.

Dr. Vasileff has experienced this trend in his practice as well, and he notes that many of his patients are having rhinoplasty in Michigan at the same time.

"Chin augmentation can correct a receding chin or balance out asymmetries," he says. "When you combine the procedure with surgery to create a more aesthetically pleasing nose, the effect on your profile and overall appearance can be dramatic."

He says it is common for models to have this combination surgery to create a well-balanced nose and a longer, more dramatic jaw line.

"Doing two procedures at the same time is a good way to attain the best balance," he says. "For example, when having eyelid surgery or a face lift, Michigan patients often opt for cheek surgery as well to fill out depressions that make them appear tired."

No matter what type of cosmetic surgery a person is considering, Dr. Vasileff stresses the importance of finding an experienced surgeon who is familiar with the procedure and asking to see before-and-after pictures of the doctor's work before making a final decision.

"There are many plastic surgeons in Michigan, but it's critical to select a doctor who is a board-certified plastic surgeon. And, even then, it's important to ask about your surgeon's training, experience and hospital privileges," Dr. Vasileff says.

In addition to specializing in tummy tucks, breast augmentation and face lifts, Michigan native Dr. Vasileff offers a full range of non-surgical procedures, including chemical peels, injectable fillers and laser skin rejuvenation.

Dr. William J. Vasileff is a board-certified plastic surgeon and the founder of the Birmingham Institute of Plastic Surgery. Dr. Vasileff completed his surgical training at the prestigious Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago, where he specialized in general surgery and ear, nose and throat surgery. After completing his residency in plastic surgery at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio, Dr. Vasileff moved to Philadelphia to complete a fellowship in craniofacial surgery at the University of Pennsylvania Medical School. He is a member of numerous prominent medical societies and a sought-after lecturer in the medical community.
