Marc E. Behrendt conducted research on nature deficit disorder and its effects on education

SOMERSET, OH, June 19, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marc E. Behrendt a Biologist, Fossil Preparator and Medical Technologist for Marc Behrendt Fossil Preparation, has been recognized by Worldwide Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in Education and Scientific Research.

Mr. Behrendt is a paleontologist, educator, writer, researcher, and medical scientist with 35 years of professional experience. He has held various positions, including medical laboratory scientist, shift supervisor and field biologist. He was an instructor for the Ohio Division of Wildlife and wrote curriculum that is currently being taught in Ohio's public schools. He passed the Praxis II Life Science Exam with honors to acquire a teaching license for the state of Ohio and earned a master's degree with a GPA of 4.0. He has done field studies on fish and bird populations with the Ohio Division of Wildlife United States Fish and Wildlife Service, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture. He has also set a record in the state of Ohio by collecting orange spotted sunfish. He also organized field trips for students to the Ohio State University's Stone Laboratory on Gibraltar Island. In addition to all this, Mr. Behrendt finds the time to write articles for Fossil News magazine.

A passion for working with wildlife combined with his desire to share valuable knowledge with children prompted Mr. Behrendt to became involved in his profession. He attributes his success to his learning skills, honesty, passion for science, ability to make his colleagues' and students' work easier, and respect for his associates, clients and students. One major highlight of his career was conducting research on nature deficit disorder and its effects on education.

Mr. Behrendt is currently Pursuing a Ph.D. in Teacher Education, Science Curriculum and Instruction at Ohio University. In 2008, he received a Master of Education from Muskingum University and in 1977 he received a Bachelor of Arts from Wittenberg University.In the near future, he aspires to increase his involvement in biological science. He is a Full-Time Graduate Assistant under the Books Grant as a Stem Educator; a Certified Medical Technologist through the American Society for Clinical Pathology; and a Certified Wildlife Habitat Naturalist through the WindStar Wildlife Institute. He is a Licensed Life Science Teacher (7-12) in the State of Ohio. He is a member of the Writing Team of the Ohio Department of Education, The Leave No Child INSIDE Central Ohio Collaborative, the North Coast Fossil Club, the Columbus Rock & Mineral Society, the Mid-America Paleontology Society, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the CREW Foundation and the Perry County Chapter of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America.
