CARLSBAD, NM, July 07, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Carlsbad Department of Development (CDOD) recently honored several leaders in the community at their annual dinner. Businesses were recognized in several areas, including housing development, retail impact, volunteerism, and education. Stan Power of Tessenderlo Kerley Services, Inc. (TKS) received the Corporate Investment Award for keeping his business in Carlsbad.

At one point recently, TKS was faced with the prospect of leaving Carlsbad due to insufficient operating space. The CDOD, in conjunction with the City of Carlsbad, set out to assist Power with this problem. Power worked with both the CDOD and the City to find a suitable location for his expansion, which was found in the Carlsbad Airport Industrial Park (CAIP). After working with the City to secure an agreement to acquire the property, he moved forward with an aggressive building plan and was completed with his project in less than a year.

"We really didn't want to see TKS leave, and we were very concerned with losing the jobs TKS provides our community," said John Waters, executive director of the CDOD. "The situation has worked out perfectly for all parties involved, and we are lucky to have Stan and TKS in Carlsbad."

TKS' qualified staff of engineers and fabrication personnel work closely with the plant locations to keep abreast of cutting-edge technology in fertilizer solutions and process chemicals production. Their experience ranges from plant design in new construction to improving the efficiency of existing facilities. TKS has been designing and constructing processing plants for the refining, gas processing and petrochemical industries since 1982. Their projects include both grassroots plants and plant modifications or expansions. They maintain an ASME and NBIC certified shop of U, R and S code stamps in their fabrication department.

Since relocating to the CAIP, Power has increased production and added 55 new jobs to his operation. Prior to the move, TKS averaged one refinery per year which accounted for a respectable $12-20 million in annual revenue. After the move in January 2011, TKS has constructed and is in the process of building 4 new refineries for Tessenderlo Kerley (TKI) in places like Nevada and Oklahoma, and has increased revenue to approximately $100 million annually.
